Wellness Journal

This month, the VCU Wellness Committee will formally be launching a new initiative called the Online Wellness Journal. It is intended to be a space where students can express themselves through any medium of art they choose (i.e. painting, poetry, spoken word, etc.) as well offer a space for students to share their own stories and experiences. The VCU Wellness Committee will also be sharing blog posts with resources that address burnout, resilience, wellness and well-being. Our goal is to provide a virtual space to uplift and empower student voices at MCV while further strengthening our sense of community. The posts that students share can be made anonymously or under a pseudonym; we want to facilitate a student-run open forum where individuals can freely share their thoughts, stories and experiences. Please submit your pieces here <https://forms.gle/UmjksRY2gPnt5CGKA>  and be sure to check out our first post at https://vcusomwellness.wordpress.com/.

Announcements from the Weekly Scoop
Sunday, January 24th

MSG Transition. From now until May, please contact the following MSG Proxies with any questions: Riley Payne <paynere2@mymail.vcu.edu>, Proxy for VP of Student Life; Brian Byun <Byunbj@vcu.edu>, Proxy for VP of Social Affairs; Abbas Ali Khan <alikhana@vcu.edu>, Proxy for VP of Societies; and Betty Ma <mabc@mymail.vcu.edu>, Proxy for VP of Community Service.

Mandatory SIG Leader Training. The SIG leader training will be held over zoom during the first week of February. At least one president and one treasurer need to attend a training session. The two sessions will be held Wednesday, 2/3 from 12-1PM and Thursday, 2/4 from 12-1PM. Please contact me if you have any questions. A friendly reminder for students: Please do not start a new SIG without first informing me and please do not request reimbursement from the curriculum office without first being allocated money by the Dean's fund chairs. This will occur sometime in May as new SIGs cannot hold events their first semester.

Project ACE. Project ACE is starting back, and SNMA at VCU is looking for medical students with availability to serve as mentors from 3:30 - 4pm every Friday starting January 22nd – March 26th. This is a wonderful and rewarding way to make a difference in our community by mentoring high school students in the Richmond area and an opportunity to possibly inspire younger mentees to pursue a career in healthcare! Please access the sign-up sheet here. There will be various, weekly workshops focused on exploring clinical skills, writing, and book discussions. If you have any questions, please reach out to Tanner Nelson, VP of Academics for SNMA, at nelsont2@mymail.vcu.edu.

Black History Month 2021. The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) is looking for student committee members to help plan the Black History Month 2021. Please email Kim Green at greenk2@vcu.edu if interested.

SFMA Pulse. Read the latest edition of the family medicine student-run newsletter here.  This Pulse issue includes a reflection on rural medicine and a recap of all that we did this year! We hope you take a moment to flip through and enjoy!

University Counseling Services. Students can contact university counseling at 804-828-6200 and schedule a telehealth appointment. Please see this website for more information.
